Data Protection and Data Privacy Practice (Module 7)
Dr. Sára Gabriella Hoffman works in security engineering and as an attorney, admitted in Germany and California. She currently works for an e-commerce platform in the San Francisco Bay Area. She is the founder of Empower Privacy, an organization that provides digital safety training and services to schools, companies and families, helping them to protect children online. In her last role, Sára was the Director and Head of Security Engineering at a SaaS company affiliated with the US Defense sector. Prior thereto, she collaborated with Anthropic to build and scale their data governance, privacy and security programs. Prior thereto, she spent 6 years at Stripe as their Head of Privacy and Cybersecurity (Legal) and Head of Product Security Engineering. Prior thereto, she worked for an international law firm focusing on privacy, data protection and antitrust law.
Sára holds a J.D. and a Ph.D. from Humboldt-University of Berlin. She was John. M. Olin Fellow for Law & Economy at Cornell University and a Stanford Microsoft Fellow. Her Ph.D. research received grants from Microsoft Azure and the German Government. Since 2013, she’s been a lecturer at Freie Universität Berlin. She is a member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), and an honorary Fellow at the Centre of Information Policy Leadership (CIPL).
