Fundamentals of Regulatory Law

Key issues: European legal framework of network industries, reasons for sector specific regulation in the network industries, basic principles of access control and grid charge price regulation, Digital Economy, Online Platforms, Digital Single Market

The students will learn about the legal and economic fundamentals of infrastructure regulation common to different sectors like energy, telecommunications, railway and water supply. The content of the course is of practical relevance to students wishing to work in these sectors. The course also covers market liberalization in these sectors, access control, grid charge regulation, incentive regulation, State monopolies and Privatization, services of general economic interest, among other relevant aspects of economic regulation. The course also offers insight into the Digital Economy, and the growth of online platforms, especially in light of the Digital Single Market Directive.
