Liliane is a Senior Economist at the EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA), where she provides economic expertise to ESA's competition and state aid cases, and liaises with other competition and regulatory authorities. ESA monitors compliance with European Economic Area rules in Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, enabling them to participate in the European Internal Market. Before joining ESA, Liliane spent five years as Economic Analyst at the Chief Economist Team of the European Commission (DG COMP), advising mainly on antitrust and merger cases. She holds a PhD in Economics from the European University Institute (Florence, Italy), a B.Sc. in Economics from Vienna University of Economics and Business (Vienna, Austria), and obtained graduate training in economics at the Institute for Advanced Studies (Vienna, Austria) and University of Rochester (NY, USA). After obtaining her PhD, she held positions as Assistant Professor at the economics department of University of Vienna and of LUISS University in Rome. Liliane’s research interests are in antitrust economics, Industrial Organization, and applied game theory. Her work was published, among others, in the Journal of Industrial Economics, the International Journal of Industrial Organization, and World Development.
