Together with Giedre Jokubauskaite, Asli Ozcelik Olcay, and Andreas Buser, Heike Krieger edited the book *From Protracted Conflict to Sustainable Peace*, published by Oxford University Press. The book examines the phenomenon of protracted armed conflicts in which societies have suffered for decades from the consequences of violence and conflict-induced socioeconomic upheaval. Examples include the conflicts in Afghanistan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Sudan, and Yemen. In response to the numerous legal, (geo)political, institutional, humanitarian, development policy, and environmental challenges, many advocates support a so-called “Triple Nexus” approach. This approach aims to integrate humanitarian aid and development assistance with the peace sector. Despite growing political interest in this approach, however, the legal dimensions of protracted conflicts and the implications of the Triple Nexus under international law remain insufficiently researched. Against this backdrop, this book offers the first comprehensive legal and interdisciplinary examination of the topic.
