The idea that international law plays an essential role in maintaining and creating peace is as old as the idea of legalizing international relations, and at the same time it is time again foundationally challenged. An important field of research at the Institute deals with legal-dogmatic, interdisciplinary, and legal-political questions of ius ad bellum and ius in bello.
