The challenges of human rights protection by authoritarian and populist movements is just as much a subject of the work of the institute as well as the analysis of the basic doctrinal structures of the protection of fundamental and human rights, with special regard for duties to protect. There is a close connection to the research area of environmental and climate protection law in the light of of climate change litigation and the potentially new conceptualisations of inherent rights of nature.
