Priya S. Gupta

Priya S. Gupta is Associate Professor of Law at McGill University's Faculty of Law, where she teaches and writes in the areas of property and international law, capitalism, and critical race theory. Professor Gupta’s scholarship has focused on housing access, security, and discrimination in a number of jurisdictions, including the United States, Canada, Palestine, India, and the United Kingdom. Her more recent work explores the intersection of racial and financial capitalism, specifically in relation to property law. Her forthcoming monograph Financializing the City (MIT Press, 2026) examines how cities govern urban space in the interest of financial investors, and the myriad architectural, political, racial, and class consequences. Professor Gupta is currently working on two projects: Laws of Racial Capitalism (Fernwood Press, 2027) and Becoming the World’s Landlords: Canadian Pension Fund Investment in Global Housing and welcomes correspondence from Berlin-based activists and researchers working on the financialization of housing in Berlin.
