You are required to hand in a seminar paper and hold an oral presentation in order to successfully take part in the seminar, whereby the seminar paper will constitute 80% and the presentation 20% of your grade.
Formal requirements regarding the seminar paper are as follows:
Make sure to mark ideas from other authors with appropriate references and citations. Presenting another’s work as your own constitutes plagiarism and will result in your paper being graded with 0 points; all papers will be scanned extensively to this end. Choose one citation style and stick to it throughout the paper. A good paper is characterised by a logical, concise structure, is grammatically and orthographically sound and based on appropriate sources (preferably sources from 2010 to the present so as to guarantee topicality). Footnotes are succeeded by full stops and all sources noted in them must also be noted in the paper’s bibliography.
As a general rule, all costs are to be borne by seminar participants:
FU Berlin and the Ernst-Reuter-Foundation will cover up to €300 of the costs of each participant (max. €215 for travelling expenses, overnight accommodation in Cambridge, coffee in Berlin). The costs will be reimbursed after the seminar. Please bear in mind that final confirmation of your seminar participation can only be guaranteed once you have transferred a down payment of €50; the account details will be announced shortly. Once you have transferred the payment, please send a copy of the transfer receipt to firstname.lastname@example.org.
