For many incoming exchange students, studying in Berlin is their first living abroad experience. But there's no need to be concerned about how to get familiar with the new environment. Although the Law Department of Freie Universität Berlin is rather big, we are creating a familiar atmosphere and you will soon make new friends! Here are a few suggestions on where to meet people and where to spend your freetime.

Buddy Program

'Buddies' are German students who are interested in providing advice and support to incoming exchange students. Many of these students have recently returned from a study abroad year and wish to give back good experiences that they have made in their respective host countries. Meetings between international exchange students and their buddies will be part of our orientation activities.

ELSA Activities

The European Law Students' Association proposes a full range of activities to incoming exchange students such as public speeches of guest lecturers on international aspects of the legal profession, or study trips to International Organisations. More information is provided on ELSA's website: http://www.elsa-berlin.de/

University Sports

The University Sports of Freie University is a great opportunity to meet fellow students beyond your faculty. Whether you want to sail, climb, join a yoga class or play soccer, you can do almost anything from “Achtsamkeitsmeditation” to “Zumba”.

The current sport program is available on the website of University Sports: http://www.hochschulsport.fu-berlin.de/en/index.html

International Club

The International Club is a student organisation at Freie Universität Berlin where incoming exchange students can meet not only fellow law students but also students from other academic disciplines. The Club organizes various activities such as movie nights, parties, trips to museums, cultural celebrations, or city trips. More information is available on the International Club's website: http://www.internationalerclub.de/
